There is an eerie feeling in the cemetery. As if a heavy snake were
undulating through the stones. There is no smell of Flor de Noche.
Lobo looks inquisitive. Stares at me. The tree steams don’t swing.
Didn’t touch my cheeks this evening. The sky is getting overcast.
The moon is hiding. I feel a bit anxious. Not afraid. Anxious. I look
around. See nothing. Feel a lot. Have a strong one from my Tequila.
The silence is louder than usual. I put my ear to my Mama’s stone.
It’s beating strongly. It’s starting to rain. Look for refuge in the large
mausoleum next to my Mama ‘s grave. Lobo and I get next to each
other. He is my best company right now. As always. We keep warm
each other. He’s kind of shaking. Never seen him like this before.
Something ominous is afoot. I keep my cool and calm. Tequila helps.
I light a cigarette. It rains heavily for about twenty minutes.
All of a sudden I smell the Flor de Noche. The tree limbs caress my
cheeks. The eerie feeling is gone. As if the rain had cured the cemetery.
I hear the cricket. Those children’s laughter. The air smells pure and
fresh. Lobo is relaxed now. He kissed my hand. I kissed his head.
We go back to my Mama’s marble stone. I used my hand to remove
the water on it. Lay down and take a long look at the moon.
It looks magnificent. Everything is good again. The moon in its place.
The stars too. The tree is happy. Lobo is happy and I’m happy too.
Good night.
