We broke three piñatas. Each one was pregnant with pieces of sugar

cane. Oranges, peanuts, lots of candy. I had to move as fast as a lizard.

To get the most possible accolades. The pockets in my pants got full of

everything. After breaking them, we had Pozole. Delicious pozole.

With chopped onions, cabbage, radishes, and lime juice. Washed down

with a glass of Tepache. We used to play in the street all of us kids, as

late as 9:00 PM. Back then traffic was scarce. We played all types of

running games. Till we got all wet in sweat. My worries at the time

we’re having always my pockets full of candy. Eating guavas and

oranges from the houses in the block. To which I had access through

the roof. I was a cat. Would climb to trees easily. I would lift myself in

the hallway between the kitchen and the dining room using my bare

feet. One on each side of the wall. Other worries were to be on the alert

in case this or that kid wanted to do me harm. Sometimes I hurt them

badly. Others, I was hurt badly. That was kind of all about it. Ah, I was

a good student. But I also fought others kids in the school yard. I had to.

All those things happened at the beginning of my career in life.

I haven’t graduated though. I guess that take place last.
